Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake Life Picturesque Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lakes both offer an array of recreational opportunities for your enjoyment. Lake Barkley has been created by impounding 118 miles of the Cumberland River in 1964. It has 1,004 miles of shoreline providing 57,900 acres of beautiful water. Kentucky Lake is 184 miles in length and has 2,064 miles of shoreline providing 160,300 acres of beautiful water. Kentucky Lake was created by the building of Kentucky Dam impounding a portion of the Tennessee River which completed this lake in 1944. Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake are located in an area that varies from gentle to moderately rolling hills, typical of scenic western Kentucky. Travel from one lake to the other is an easy and a fun experience going through the canal. Both Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake offer great recreation, fishing and wildlife. Land Between The Lakes is 170,000 acres of undeveloped land. The recreation here is unbelievable with hiking trails, off road trails, the Planetarium, Nature Station, Home Place a 19th century working farm, camping, elk and bison range, horseback riding the list goes on and on. |
